  1. I wrote the ‘main’ piece (pages 11 to 30) in this book, having travelled with Bill D. to stay at Curfew Tower. Bill added a few preliminary pages then quite a lot of afterthought (pages 31-56). As he’d commissioned my essay, that gave him the power of controlling the context in which it was seen and understood. One thing he wrote in the later pages irritated me at the time. Now I can see that it was fair comment, and pathetic of me to have had a problem with it. The phrase ‘Stay Here and Make Art’ makes me smile with nostalgia and encourages me to think with pencil-sharp selflessness!
