The Very, Very Meta Synopsis Of “2023”

Amazon have recently updated their synopsis of The JAMS’ “2023”. We will leave it up to you to decide whether or not this makes things more clear.

In the Spring of 2013, the undertakers Cauty & Drummond were on a tour of the Western Isles of Scotland. It was while staying at Jura’s one hotel that they came across a strange-looking book. The book was titled Back in the USSR and authored by someone using the name of Gimpo. Back in the USSR was the memoir of a young woman who had been a nurse in the Falklands War in 1982.

Gimpo ended up in Kiev in what was then the Soviet state of The Ukraine. Here she met with two women named Tat’jana and Kristina who went under numerous aliases, the most widely used being The KLF. Also in Back in the USSR it was claimed that Tat’jana and Kristina had been heavily influenced by a book originally written in English as The Twenty Twenty-Three! Trilogy by someone calling themselves George Orwell. But this George Orwell was in turn the pen name of Roberta Antonia Wilson.

What you are about to read is what they read – well, almost. As for Back in the USSR, if we are able to sell the initial edition of this book and make a return on our investment, we hope to publish that. As for the current whereabouts of Tat’jana and Kristina, we have no idea. They were last seen disappearing into the depths of the Black Sea in their decommissioned Project 865 Piranha submarine. This supposed disappearance happened on 23 August 1994. Rumour on the internet has it they would not reappear for another twenty-three years.

The name of Kristina most probably refers to Kristina Brunk, one of the fictional musicians appearing on Kalevala Records, the short lived Finnish label invented by Bill Drummond and Mark Manning. At this point it is unclear how all of this is supposed to tie in with the Triptych.

“2023” can be preordered from Amazon or the publisher’s own website.

Taped To The Tiles: 2023 The Triptych Trailer

On March 21st (but for reasons beyond our understanding not having been posted on our website until now) instead of another poster a strange DVD-R appeared taped to the wall in the usual spot, featuring a trailer for the upcoming 2023 Triptych.

2023 – The Triptych is a film projected onto three vertical screens.

It is not a dramatisation of the book 2023 but a response to it.

It has no dialogue or musical soundtrack.

It lasts for 69 minutes and can be streamed to mobile phones or projected onto large cliffs.

If and how this trailer ties in with the upcoming book remains to be seen – like previous communications posted by The JAMS this one again raises more questions than answers.

K2 Plant Hire Poster #4

Furthermore, most channels of communications went offline after the trailer got distributed, including Jimmy’s twitter account and website. For now the K2 Plant Hire Ltd. website remains the only source of information though there have been no new posts in quite a while now.

This probably means that we got all the information we need and just have to put the whole picture together now…

Save The Date(s)

Another piece of the “2023” trilogy puzzle appeared, though we still don’t get the whole picture.

K2 Plant Hire Poster #3

That’s four days to block in your calendar. An appearance at this year’s Creamfields festival can probably be ruled out, though.

A Wild Poster Appears, Announces Book

A second poster got shared via K2 Plant Hire’s twitter feed this morning, prominently featuring the People’s Pyramid hovering over a cornfield and announcing “2023 – A trilogy by The Justified Ancients Of Mu Mu”.

K2 Plant Hire Poster #2

People quickly spotted an additional bit of information not found on the first poster – the company logo of book publisher Faber & Faber. Speculation quickly evolved into fact as an actual listing of “2023” appeared on their website (and Amazon) not much later.

Well we’re back again,
They never kicked us out,
twenty thousand years of

Down through the epochs and out across the continents, generation upon generation of the Justified Ancients of Mu Mu have told variants of the same story – an end of days story, a final chapter story. But with one hope, even if the hope at times seems forlorn. The story contained in this trilogy is the latest telling. Here it is presented as a utopian costume drama, set in the near future, written in the recent past.

Read with care.

Their website describes the book as 352 pages thick and scheduled for release on the 23rd of August – the date many of us probably already circled in their calendars.
